Seva- Train accident 2013-Anathapur Dist

Seva to train accident victims – 28th Dec 2013.

In about 19 months time, another worst train accident took place in Anantapur district, when B1 A/C coach of Bangalore-Nanded express caught fire on 28th Dec 2013 at 3-30 AM near KOTHACHERUVU. 26 passengers were charred to death and about 15 passengers were injured in the accident. The injured persons were transported to Govt. hospital, Dharmavaram. The sevadal volunteers from Sri Sathya Sai Seva Samithi, Kothacheruvu rushed to the accident site immediately after receiving the information, and took part in rescue and relief operations. Later sevadal from Dharmavaram Samithi and Roddam Samithi also participated in relief operations. The details of the service rendered at three places are as follows -

1. Service at accident site:

Eight sevadal members handled the corpses of victims from the burnt coach to temporarily erected pandal and assisted doctors in doing post mortem. Sevadal also assisted police personnel in moving 26 corpses into 5 Ambulance vans. The ambulace vans handed over the corpses in Victoria Hospital, Bangalore, for carrying out DNA tests. Other sevadal distributed about 5000 water packets, 700 biscuit packets, 600 cups of tea and 750 food packets to passengers, relatives of victims, staff of Railway Police, Civil Police, Revenue, Medical and others, who were on duty attending to rescue and relief operations.

2. Service at Govt. Hospital, Dharmavaram:

About 10 sevadal participated in service to the injured at Govt. hospital, Dharmavaram and provided all the care and love needed at that time. Breakfast and coffee were served to the injured persons and their relatives, and also helped in travel arrangements to their places.

3. Service at Govt. Hospital, Anantapur:

Five sevadal rendered service at the Govt. hospital, Anantapur. Two seriously injured persons were shifted to hospital in Anantapur, after first aid at Dharmavaram. Breakfast and lunch were served to the relatives of the injured persons.

                         Total - 101
